He related family history, childhood experiences and associations, an early apprenticeship, and later business activities including travel to the West. He also reflected and reported on prohibition, law, politics, reconstruction, and referred to a Mary Sugg, Colonel Boykin of South Carolina, and Benjamin Tillman of South Carolina.
